Do Hair Salons in Korea Take Walk-Ins?

Some Korean hair salons take walk-ins, but many work by appointment because each designer keeps their own schedule. A quick cut or blow-dry is easier to fit in than a perm or color. This is general custom, not the policy of any one salon.

Why appointments are common in Korean salons

Many Korean salons are built around individual designers rather than a shared pool of stylists. Each designer has their own clients, their own chair time and, in many places, their own price list. If a designer is already working on a long service, nobody else can simply take over your head.

Chemical services also block time. A perm or a bleach and color job can occupy one chair for a large part of the day, so a salon that accepts a walk-in for these services is taking a risk with its schedule. That is the main reason a short-notice request for a perm is more likely to be turned down.

What is most likely to work without a booking

Nothing is certain, and it varies by salon, by day and by designer. As a general rule, the shorter the service, the better your chances.

Service typeChance of fitting in without a bookingWhy
Bangs trimHigherVery short; easy to slot between clients
Standard cutModerateDepends on whether a designer has a free hour
Blow-dry or stylingModerateShorter than chemical work, but still needs a free chair
PermLowLong and needs a designer who can stay with you
Bleach or full colorLowLong, with waiting time that cannot be rushed

General pattern only. Each salon decides for itself.

How to try if you are already in the neighbourhood

  1. Check the opening hours first. Hours differ between salons, and some close on a fixed weekday.
  2. Go earlier in the day on a weekday. Late afternoons and weekends tend to fill up in busy districts.
  3. Ask at the desk whether any designer is free right now and for how long.
  4. Keep your request simple: a cut, a trim or a blow-dry is easier to say yes to.
  5. Have photos ready on your phone so the conversation is short.

If the answer is no, ask when the next opening is. Many salons will offer a later time the same day or the next day.

Phrases that help at the door

A short sentence in Korean, shown on your phone, often makes the exchange smoother:

  • 예약 없이 왔는데 가능할까요? (yeyak eopsi wanneunde ganeunghalkkayo?) means “I came without a reservation. Is it possible?”
  • 지금 가능한 디자이너 있으세요? (jigeum ganeunghan dijaineo isseuseyo?) means “Is any designer free now?”
  • 언제 가능해요? (eonje ganeunghaeyo?) means “When is it possible?”

You do not need perfect pronunciation. Showing the text is enough, and staff will usually answer with a time or a short no.

What can go wrong, and how to avoid it

The usual problems are a long wait, being asked to return later, or being given a designer you did not choose. A less obvious problem is saying yes to a long chemical service only because a slot happens to be open. If the designer has not looked at your hair history, ask for a shorter service now and plan the perm or color for another day.

Also think about your own schedule. Lightening dark hair or a perm can take a large part of an afternoon, and leaving before it is finished is not an option. If you have a flight, a tour or a dinner booked, plan the time in advance rather than hoping for a gap.

A language point for visitors

Writing your request in a short message or showing it on your phone helps. A planned visit lets you send photos in advance, which is why many visitors arrange the time before they arrive. The steps for arranging a visit at WENEED are on the how to book page.

FAQ

Questions guests ask

Do hair salons in Korea take walk-ins?

Some do and many prefer appointments. A short service such as a trim or blow-dry is easier to fit in than a perm or color.

Is it rude to ask for a same-day haircut?

No. Asking politely whether a designer is free is normal. Accept the answer if the salon is full.

Why would a salon refuse a perm on short notice?

Perms and color take a long block of one designer’s time, so salons protect that time for planned clients.

What should I bring if I arrive without a booking?

Photos of the style you want, a note of your last perm or color date, and some flexibility on timing.

Do Korean salons close on certain days?

Some do, often on a fixed weekday. Hours vary by salon, so check the days and times before you travel.

Does this page describe WENEED’s policy?

No. It describes general custom. For WENEED, follow the steps on the how to book page.
