Head Spa vs Scalp Treatment
A head spa is built around relaxation and a thorough wash, while a scalp treatment targets a specific scalp concern such as buildup. Hair clinic is a third, separate type of care that focuses on the hair strand.

Three services that get confused
Salon menus use these words loosely. The table shows the usual meaning, but definitions differ by salon.
| Service | Main focus | Typical goal |
|---|---|---|
| Head spa | Whole scalp experience | Deep cleanse, massage, relaxation |
| Scalp treatment | A specific scalp concern | Care for oiliness, dryness or product buildup |
| Scalp scaling | Removing buildup and flakes | A deeper clean of the scalp surface |
| Hair clinic | The hair strand | Care for dry or chemically treated hair |
Choose a head spa if
- You want a long, calm service, not only a result.
- You like scalp massage.
- You want to add comfort to a trip.
On the menu, the slow-aging head spa cut is ₩50,000. See head spa. What the service includes is something to ask the designer.
Choose a scalp treatment or scaling if
You have a specific complaint, such as an oily feel soon after washing, a tight dry scalp, or a heavy product buildup. A scalp treatment aims at the scalp’s state rather than at relaxation. Scalp scaling goes further into removing buildup from the surface. See scalp treatment and scalp scaling. These two are offered by the salon but are not on the printed menu, so the designer quotes a price after checking.
Choose a hair clinic if
Your problem is in the lengths, not the scalp: dry ends, rough texture, or hair that has been bleached or permed. WENEED lists Shiseido hair clinic courses from ₩80,000 to ₩150,000, with a basic clinic at ₩80,000 and a damaged-hair regeneration clinic at ₩120,000. See hair clinic treatment.
Why salons use different names for the same thing
Korean salon menus use many English-looking labels, and a few of them overlap. One salon’s scalp treatment may include a massage, while another salon’s head spa may be mostly a deep shampoo. Do not rely on the word alone. Ask for the steps, the products, the approximate length and what you should do afterward. Comparing services by what they do is more reliable than comparing them by name.
- If you mainly want to relax, ask about the head spa.
- If you have a clear scalp complaint, ask about a scalp treatment first.
- If buildup is the issue, ask whether scaling is suitable for your scalp.
- If the ends are dry or the hair feels rough, ask about a hair clinic.
- If the scalp is painful or the problem persists, ask a doctor.
How to describe your scalp to the designer
Use plain words. Say whether the scalp gets oily by the afternoon, feels dry or tight, itches, has flakes or reacts to certain products. Say how often you wash and what you use. Mention the last time you colored, bleached or permed, because chemicals can make the scalp more sensitive for a few days. The designer then picks the right service, or tells you that a doctor is the better first step. Writing these details in your phone before the visit saves time and avoids misunderstandings when the conversation is in a second language.
A scalp service can clean and soothe. It should not promise to stop hair loss, restore thinning hair or change your genetics. Treat any claim of that kind as a reason to ask for evidence or to see a dermatologist. Our hair loss care page describes what a salon can and cannot offer.
Can you combine them
Often yes, in a planned order. A scalp service usually comes before cuts, color or perms, and strand care comes after chemical work. Ask the designer for the order that fits your hair, and for an itemized total. For a general explanation, read what is a Korean head spa.
