Hair Salon for Curly or Thick Hair in Korea
Many salons in Korea work mostly with straight or wavy hair, so with tight curls or very thick hair it is wise to ask the designer, before any work starts, whether they are comfortable with your texture.

The honest picture
Korean salon training and product shelves are built around the hair most clients have, which is straight to wavy and dark. That does not mean a designer cannot cut curly or thick hair. It means experience varies from designer to designer and from salon to salon, and you cannot assume it.
It is reasonable to ask at the start of the visit, before anything is cut. A designer who says “I can do this” or “I am not sure, maybe not” is helping you. If the answer is unsure, you lose nothing by looking for another designer.
What to show first
A clear picture gives the designer enough to judge. Bring:
- A photo of your hair dry and natural, with no heat styling, in daylight.
- A photo of how it looks when styled the way you like.
- Notes on what you currently use to define curls, and what you do not want to change.
- Your hair history: relaxers, straightening, perms, bleach and color, with dates.
Say plainly what you want: to keep curls and shape them, to loosen them, or to reduce volume. These are three different plans.
Thick hair: cutting for weight
Thick hair usually needs a cut that removes weight as well as length. The common Korean term for thinning out is 숱치기 (sut-chi-gi). Ask the designer how they plan to lighten the hair and where, because over-thinning can leave the ends flat or frizzy once it dries.
If you want more control over frizz, designers may talk about a straightening or smoothing perm. See our thick hair cut page and magic straight perm page. Results on very tight curls differ from results on wavy hair, so ask what outcome is realistic for yours.
Curly hair: cutting and care
Curls are often cut dry or with careful attention to how they spring up. Ask how your designer will cut, and tell them if you do not want a blunt line or a very short result. After the cut, ask what to use at home. Leave-in conditioners and light oils are sold widely in Korean drugstores, but ingredient lists differ, so read the label or ask the staff. Our page on the curly hair cut has more.

Questions to ask the designer
- Have you cut hair like mine, and how would you cut it?
- Will you cut it dry, wet, or both?
- Where will you remove weight, and how much?
- What happens to the shape when it dries, or when I do not style it?
- If I want straightening or a perm, what is realistic for my curl pattern, and what would it do to the curls I have?
A designer who has worked with your type usually answers these quickly and in detail. A vague answer is a signal to pause, not an insult. You can also begin with a smaller service, such as the bangs cut, to see how the designer works.
Chemical services deserve extra care on curly or coarse hair. Ask whether the hair needs a rest, and give dates of past straightening or color.
At WENEED Seomyeon Lotte
We cannot say here which designer has experience with which texture, because we do not publish designer specialties. The magic straight perm is ₩120,000 – ₩200,000+ depending on the type and designer. The designer confirms the plan and price after looking at your hair. The stylists page lists the seven designers.
Questions guests ask
Can Korean salons cut curly hair?
Some can. Experience varies by designer, so ask the designer first and show a photo of your hair in its natural state.
Is thick hair more expensive to cut?
It can be, because length add-ons and extra work are charged separately at some salons. Ask the designer to confirm the price after looking at your hair.
Can thick or curly hair be straightened with a Korean perm?
Sometimes. Results depend on the curl pattern, thickness and past treatments, and the designer decides what is realistic.
How should I prepare for my first visit?
Bring photos of your hair dry and natural, list previous chemical treatments with dates, and say what you want to keep.
Does WENEED Seomyeon Lotte have a designer for curly hair?
We do not publish designer specialties. Describe your texture at the start of the visit and the designer will say whether the plan fits.
